30 Day Lindy Hop Challenge
Day 1: What got you started in Lindy Hop
I grew up with a passion for dance.
My mom used to love leading us (whether it be me or one of my bros) through jive steps in the kitchen when that great song was on the eight-track, record player, radio, cassette, or even a piano piece I was practising. At weddings and parties, we can still be seen doing the London Bridge, twists, turns, slides, etc...
My dad loved country music dancing. He had his own style and flair for dancing that I really enjoyed. Barn dances, legion dances, or anywhere else...it was a blast.
Then...there is the rest of my family...we are the ones that always crowded the dance floor during weddings or various events. I would look forward to the chances of dancing with my papa and gramma...the memories continue at each event as our family grows in size!
When I started dancing Lindy in my 20s with actual swing teachers, I realized that it was the same type of moves just perhaps a little more in a box, while I had grown up with a very improvised "feel the music and move" approach.
Now pondering it...I wouldn't be surprised if my parents were doing Lindy when they were expecting me...
