30 Day Lindy Hop Challenge
Day 8 & 9: Your favorite instructor & Favorite class taken
This is not one person for me, but rather,...my favourite instructors are all the people that I dance with on a swing dance night, the friends that I hang out with and practise dancing in my living room or other random places, my family who crowd the dance floor during any event with music. Those are my favourite instructors because I would rather be learning through immersion into the dance than (what I believe as) the very slow pace of some classes. I agree that a class can only go as fast as their slowest learner, but it really makes it difficult sometimes to keep the interest of those that want to learn more in that same class. Sometimes it's great to slow down and really take the time to perfect each movement and perhaps my dancing suffers from not taking that time...but my attention-span doesn't do well at those slow learning styles and I can lose my interest quicker.
So, that's why the best instructors are the ones on the dance floor. And I am not talking of the ones that try to teach on the floor; I am referring to the people that dance and let me figure it out.
My favorite class taken was the aerials class with Patrick and Natasha at ILHC. The way they teach an aerial is absolutely extraordinary and I believe so many people/ instructors could learn so much from the two of them. They make things fun, safe and allow for the possible by not defeating people at the beginning.
I will continue this "30 Day" Challenge....although it will not be in a row, but rather when inspiration ignites me.
