Sometimes there could be a dark side during a large event....and what I learned.
This comes days after an experience I really had thought would never happen with a friend. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/story/2013/04/22/calgary-dont-be-that-guy-sexual-assault.html?cmp=rss
After, what I felt as, being molested on the floor by someone I knew and who perhaps thought that this behavior was somehow appropriate. And seriously, I think he thought I was drunk (which is absolutely NO excuse). Sucks for him that I was nearly sober and that I remember what he tried. I learned a few things along the way that night:
1. Yes, there are things that can be done to get a person cut out/ defriended/ dropped so fast in my life (and THAT overstepping and pushing beyond comfortable bounds is one of the top!)
2. Real friends will be amazing protectors when there are problems afoot. In times of need, they will be there for support and have your back.
3. Pack mentality (even peeps who may have been drinking all night)....can feel when something isn't right and will be by your side.
4. The good peeps can really make a night go from good to exceptional.
5. Realized there are some of my peeps that should not be messed with...they'll be there until they feel it is safe.
6. Talking with friends during the week after the event, it was confirmed how important it is for everyone to know signs, signals and not to be afraid of interrupting to make sure things are good whenever they have an "off" feeling.
Experiences to learn from, grow from, reflect upon and move forward.
