WOMAN OF COLOUR: An Unlikely Sisterhood: Marilyn Monroe & Ella Fitz...

I truly think that this is an extraordinary thing!  There needs to be more women empowering women...there is so much competition and people being so vicious with each other.  Sometimes the worth is huge if you take a step back and really look at the big picture/ future.  This is a grand reminder to me and hopefully all of us on how great we can all become if we stand up for each other, give one another a helping hand, and generally treat others how we ourselves would like to be treated.

WOMAN OF COLOUR: An Unlikely Sisterhood: Marilyn Monroe & Ella Fitz...: Sometimes you run across a story that completely changes the way you thought about a person.

“I owe Marilyn Monroe a real debt…it was because of her that I played the Mocambo, a very popular nightclub in the ’50s. She personally called the owner of the Mocambo, and told him she wanted me booked immediately, and if he would do it, she would take a front table every night. She told him - and it was true, due to Marilyn’s superstar status - that the press would go wild. The owner said yes, and Marilyn was there, front table, every night. The press went overboard. After that, I never had to play a small jazz club again. She was an unusual woman - a little ahead of her times. And she didn’t know it.” - Ella Fitzgerald
