Taking time for me...
Someone might make the excuse that I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, but I believe it is much bigger than that flimsy excuse.
I admit, I may have take a couple sick days throughout the summer...true, and I'll even let you in on a little secret...I was definitely ill! To the point that it was unsafe for me to hop on my bike to come to work. Then there are all the days that I definitely wasn't feeling well but I came to work anyway because of upcoming priorities and commitments. Then there are long days, I have definitely seen a few...not getting overtime, but working to make sure things were completed. And lastly...vacation...and this is where the question is brought up....what freakin' vacation?
I've been so caught up with so-called "urgent" work, that I have postponed the idea of vacation throughout the summer. And now, there is a freeze of asking/taking time off. Where does that put me? Well, it the about the crash and burn phase. And on top of all that...I asked for a mere three days off (Thurs, Fri, Mon) and am now really feeling the full-force of I should be feeling guilty for taking the time off during this time.
So now, I have come to realize a few things:
1. Extra work and late hours- does not get recognized
2. Not taking vacation and working instead- does not get recognized
3. Taking a couple days off- gets recognized as the worst thing that can happen!
So, what am I doing about this?
1. Not packing work in my travel bag
2. Not checking my work email during those days
3. Will not be thinking about work for those days
4. Will savour and have fun...because it may be a while before I attempt getting blood from a stone again (aka, ask for another one or two days off).
5. Am going to start really planning a vacation...when this "vacation freeze" opens up, I may just take all of my remaining days...I think that means a month or so....hmmmmm....where could I go.
A spark to remind me of the benefits of a vacation:

And my rant has ended:)
